“The self is not a wall but more like water” III (10 mins) [Performance]

This is the third version of my piece “The self is not a wall but more like water”.

In this 10 minute long performance, I drum intuitively improvising to the sound piece of the same name.

What started as a collaboration between me and water as a material, artist and sound maker, grew into an exploration of our push and pull relationship. I urge myself to be more like water, to flow and to be comfortable experiencing the motions (or Wu Wei as described in Tao Philosophy).

Exposing the struggle I have seeking my own flow, I express clashing rhythms as I piece together percussion sounds through my own movement and reaction to the sound piece. A trance-like environment is created, in my own mind and body, but also for the audience to experience. My own flow is extracted and dispersed to the world.
